Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare an 8×8-inch square baking dish by greasing it lightly.
  3. Mix the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.
  4. Cream the softened butter until creamy and light.
  5. Combine the flour mixture with the creamed butter until just combined.
  6. Reserve about 1 cup of the crumb mixture for topping and press the rest into the bottom of the baking dish.
  7. Make the filling by mixing blackberries with lemon juice and vanilla, and pour it over the crust.
  8. Add the reserved crumb mixture over the blackberries.
  9. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For added flavor, consider dusting with powdered sugar or serving warm with vanilla ice cream.
