- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp softened butter (for frosting)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 3 tbsp heavy cream
- Patriotic sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix well.
- Combine the dry ingredients in another bowl and gradually add to the wet mixture.
- Spread the thick dough evenly in the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the frosting by beating softened butter and powdered sugar; gradually add heavy cream and vanilla to desired consistency.
- Frost and top with patriotic sprinkles once the bars are cool.
- Slice into squares or rectangles and serve!
