Description

A heartwarming casserole that embodies all the flavors of classic cheesesteak in an easy, shareable dish.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or shaved steak)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 red bell pepper (diced)
  • 8 oz (225 g) white mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup (120 ml) beef broth
  • 1 cup (115 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup (115 g) shredded provolone cheese
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sauté the diced onions, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper in olive oil for about 5-7 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the sliced mushrooms and minced garlic, and sauté for another 3-4 minutes.
  4. Brown the ground beef while seasoning with salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce for about 5-6 minutes.
  5. Mix in softened cream cheese and then gradually add beef broth, stirring until creamy.
  6. Layer the mixture in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and provolone cheese.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Feel free to swap ingredients to suit dietary needs or preferences. This dish can also be made ahead of time and baked later.
