Description
A classic comfort dish of Dirty Rice made with seasoned ground beef, rice, and a mix of vegetables and spices that embodies bold flavors and cozy textures.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup celery, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups long-grain white rice, uncooked
- 3 1/2 cups beef broth
- Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Sauté the Aromatics: In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Toss in the diced onion, green bell pepper, and celery. Sauté until they’re soft and fragrant—about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until it becomes aromatic.
- Brown the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef, break it up, and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes. Season with Cajun spice and kosher salt.
- Stir in the Rice: Add the uncooked rice to the skillet and mix well, allowing it to soak up the juices. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the Broth: Gently pour in the beef broth, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a low boil.
- Simmer to Cook the Rice: Cover, reduce heat to low, and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes.
- Fluff and Serve: Remove from heat, let rest for a few minutes, then fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm.
