Ingredients

  • 6 cups thinly sliced potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Slice the potatoes thinly—about 1/8 inch thick.
  4. Layer your sliced potatoes in the prepared dish with salt and pepper between layers.
  5. Make the cheese sauce: melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in heavy cream and milk, then add garlic powder, salt, pepper and 1.5 cups shredded cheese until smooth.
  6. Pour the cheese sauce evenly over the layered potatoes.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  8. Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let the dish rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
