- 6 cups thinly sliced potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Slice the potatoes thinly—about 1/8 inch thick.
- Layer your sliced potatoes in the prepared dish with salt and pepper between layers.
- Make the cheese sauce: melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in heavy cream and milk, then add garlic powder, salt, pepper and 1.5 cups shredded cheese until smooth.
- Pour the cheese sauce evenly over the layered potatoes.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
- Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the dish rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Feel free to experiment with different cheeses and add veggies like spinach or onions for variety.
