Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Beat the unsalted butter in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add in the apple butter and mix at low speed until fully incorporated.
  3. Incorporate the sifted powdered sugar gradually, mixing on low speed and then medium speed for 2-3 minutes until smooth.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and optional ground cinnamon; mix until blended.
  5. Adjust the consistency with milk or heavy cream, adding one tablespoon at a time and mixing as needed.
  6. Taste test and adjust sweetness or seasoning as necessary.
  7. Let the icing rest for about 10 minutes before using.
