- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 3 cups apples, peeled and chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix together flour, oats, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
- Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Reserve about 1 cup of the mixture for topping.
- Press the remaining mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake for 10 minutes.
- Toss chopped apples in a bowl with lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, and vanilla.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the baked base.
- Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture over the apples.
- Bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes until golden and apples are bubbly.
- Cool the bars completely in the dish.
- Whisk together powdered sugar and milk to make a pourable glaze.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars and cut into squares.
