Description

Flaky heart-shaped pastries filled with creamy strawberry-infused cream cheese, perfect for breakfast or special occasions.


Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry (2 sheets)
  • Cream Cheese (8 oz, softened)
  • Fresh Strawberries (1 cup, sliced)
  • Sugar (1/4 cup, plus more for sprinkling)
  • Vanilla Extract (1 tsp)
  • Egg (1, beaten)
  • Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Thaw the puff pastry in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  4. Slice the strawberries and pat them dry if needed. Sprinkle with sugar if tart.
  5. Dust your work surface with flour and roll out the puff pastry to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 4×4 inch squares.
  6. Place a tablespoon of cream cheese filling in the center of each square and top with strawberry slices. Fold corners to create a heart shape and pinch to seal.
  7. Brush the tops with beaten egg and place on the baking tray. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

These danishes are excellent served warm with a sprinkle of powdered sugar or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Experiment with different fruits or flavors for variations.
