Description
Flaky heart-shaped pastries filled with creamy strawberry-infused cream cheese, perfect for breakfast or special occasions.
Ingredients
- Puff Pastry (2 sheets)
- Cream Cheese (8 oz, softened)
- Fresh Strawberries (1 cup, sliced)
- Sugar (1/4 cup, plus more for sprinkling)
- Vanilla Extract (1 tsp)
- Egg (1, beaten)
- Flour (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Thaw the puff pastry in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Slice the strawberries and pat them dry if needed. Sprinkle with sugar if tart.
- Dust your work surface with flour and roll out the puff pastry to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 4×4 inch squares.
- Place a tablespoon of cream cheese filling in the center of each square and top with strawberry slices. Fold corners to create a heart shape and pinch to seal.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg and place on the baking tray. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
These danishes are excellent served warm with a sprinkle of powdered sugar or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Experiment with different fruits or flavors for variations.
