Description

A guilt-free take on classic churros, these Healthy Baked Churro Bites are soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, all coated in delicious cinnamon sugar.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Oil, melted
  • 1/3 cup Coconut Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 cup Milk (Dairy or Non-Dairy)
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon Cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, mix together whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, combine unsweetened applesauce, melted coconut oil, coconut sugar, vanilla extract, and milk.
  5. Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Shape the dough into 24 small balls and place them on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden.
  8. Whisk together coconut sugar and cinnamon for coating and roll the warm bites in the mixture.
  9. Cool briefly on a wire rack and serve warm.

Notes

These churro bites can be frozen and reheated in the oven for a freshly baked taste.
