- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cups cream or sour cream
- 1 cup grated cheese (Swiss or Gruyère)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Wash the potatoes thoroughly and slice them into ¼ inch rounds.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet, add onions, and sprinkle with salt—sauté until caramelized (15-20 minutes).
- Combine cream and half of the grated cheese in a bowl to create a cheese base.
- Layer potato slices in a greased baking dish, alternating with caramelized onions and cheese mixture.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle remaining cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
