Description

Creamy crab and shrimp seafood bisque is a rich, elegant soup loaded with tender shrimp, sweet crab meat, and a velvety cream base infused with aromatics and seafood stock. Perfect for a cozy dinner or special occasion, this bisque is comforting, luxurious, and packed with savory flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups seafood stock (or chicken stock)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning (or paprika)
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 lb cooked shrimp, chopped
  • 1/2 lb lump crab meat
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Fresh parsley or chives (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and celery, and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute. Sprinkle in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 2–3 minutes to form a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in seafood stock and white wine (if using), stirring to avoid lumps. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 10 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  4. Stir in cream, Old Bay seasoning, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
  5. Add chopped shrimp and crab meat. Cook gently for 2–3 minutes, until seafood is heated through.
  6. Stir in lemon juice. Adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley or chives.

Notes

  • Use fresh, frozen, or canned seafood—just make sure it’s cooked and drained well.
  • Blend part of the soup before adding seafood for a smoother texture.
  • Serve with crusty bread, oyster crackers, or a fresh green salad.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently over low heat—do not boil.
  • Make it gluten-free by using cornstarch instead of flour to thicken.
