  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Maple syrup for serving
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the French bread and let it sit out for about an hour to dry out.
  3. Beat the softened cream cheese until smooth, then add 1/4 cup sugar, vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  4. Layer half of the sliced bread in a greased baking dish, followed by dollops of the cream cheese mixture.
  5. Add the remaining slices of bread on top, followed by another layer of cream cheese mixture.
  6. Whisk together the eggs, milk, remaining 1/4 cup sugar, the rest of the cinnamon, and salt in a separate bowl.
  7. Pour the egg mixture over the layered bread and cream cheese, pressing down gently to soak.
  8. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  9. Bake the casserole for 45–50 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm, topped with powdered sugar and drizzled with maple syrup.
